I've bought a new bike. I've purchased most of my gear. I've told all my friends. I've informed my employer. And now I've started a blog. There's no turning back now!
On May 1st I will depart New Haven with my bicycle pointed west toward Portland, OR. Along the first leg I will cross the mighty Hudson River, pass through the Catskills, tour the vineyards along the Finger Lakes, see much of the Great Lakes coast line and visit my friends and family in Michigan. There I will pause for a week or two.
When I resume, the second leg will deliver the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the lakes and grasslands of the mid-North states, Glacier National Park in Montana and the mountainous wild of the Pacific Northwest as I narrow in on my destination. I hope to visit friends in Portland and spend some time enjoying Oregon. Whether it will be my final destination or just a stopping point before making a return trip to Michigan remains to be seen.
At any rate, I plan to keep you all informed of my travels through this blog as well as a site called TrackMyTour (I will post the link closer to May 1st). I welcome your interest in my journey and want to thank everyone that has assisted me thus far. If you wish to help, I invite you to donate through the ChipIn widget on the right side of this page (below the About Me section). Any amount will be appreciated and will be used to buy granola bars and campsites along the way as well as pay my cell phone bill so I can continue writing this journal.
